Role-playing game about the future of the European Union

The role-playing game about the future of the EU is a game designed to
engage 12 – 30 students for approximately 2½ hours. The purpose of the
role-playing game is to encourage students to participate in a lively and
nuanced debate on the following topics:

  1. The EU budget (session 1)
  2. EU asylum and refugee policy (session 2 – optional)

The game consists of the following materials:

War on the continent: A role-playing game about the EU’s defence and security policy

The role-playing game on the EU’s defence and security policy is designed to engage 20–40 students over approximately 2–3 hours. It can be played in full over three rounds, or shortened to just the first two. In this role-playing game, students take on the role of the government of an EU member state. Each group must lead their country through a political conflict between two fictional nations located at the EU’s external border, and actively participate in the lively and nuanced debates at the negotiation table in every round.

    EU Climate Diplomats: A role-playing game on EU meat consumption

    This role-playing game about EU meat consumption is designed to engage 20–40 students over approximately 2–3 hours. In the game, students take on the role of the government of an EU member state and debate how EU countries should respond to Europeans’ meat consumption. The purpose of the role-playing game is to encourage students to participate in a lively and nuanced debate on two potential policy packages, revolving around the question: should the EU introduce a special climate tax on meat products or reduce its agricultural subsidies to meat producers?
